Catalog Types
TikTok supports five catalog types, each tuned to a vertical. Type is fixed at creation — you cannot convert a Products catalog into a Hotels catalog later. Currency is also locked at creation 4.
The five types at a glance
| Type | Stores | Typical advertiser | Sprinklr UI | Product Sets UI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Products | SKUs with price, image, availability | Retailers, D2C, marketplaces, CPG, beauty | Full | ✅ |
| Hotels | Properties, nightly rates, availability, location | OTAs (Booking-style), hotel chains | API-only | ❌ |
| Flights | Origin/destination pairs, schedules, fares | Airlines, flight aggregators | API-only | ❌ |
| Destinations | Cities, regions, points of interest | Tourism boards, experience platforms | API-only | ❌ |
| Media Titles | Shows, movies, library titles + metadata (genre, IMDb rating, cover, clips) | Streaming services, entertainment brands | API-only | ❌ |
Travel (Hotels / Flights / Destinations) and Entertainment (Media Titles) are API-only in Sprinklr — no Product Sets UI is exposed for those types 4.
Products — the default
What every retailer / D2C brand uses. Feeds in via URL (http/https/ftp/sftp with credentials) or manual file (.xls, .xlsx, .csv, .tsv, .xml). API-side this is /open_api/v1.3/catalog/* 1.
Consumes:
- Carousel, Single Video, Catalog Video (all Product-category)
- Smart+ Catalog Ads (Website + App) → smart-catalog-ads-website-app
- Flexible Catalog Ads at ad-level → flexible-catalog-ads-at-ad-level
Hotels / Flights / Destinations (Travel)
TikTok's three travel catalog subtypes. Each has its own schema for vertical-specific fields — Hotels need availability and nightly rates, Flights need origin/destination and fare class, Destinations store POIs. All API-only from Sprinklr's side today: you can CRUD the catalog via API but cannot manage Product Sets through Sprinklr's UI 4.
Advertiser profile: OTAs, airlines, tourism boards. Niche vs Products in TAM, but high AOV.
Media Titles — the streaming catalog
The newest type and the fastest-growing vertical. Purpose-built for streaming services / entertainment brands advertising library titles rather than shoppable SKUs.
Set-up flow 2:
- Log in to TikTok Business Center → Assets → Catalogs.
- Add catalog → industry = Media and entertainment.
- Upload titles. Three modes:
- Manual — in-form; mandatory fields upfront + optional expansion.
- Data feed schedule — scheduled URL ingestion.
- Upload file (recommended for Streaming Ads) — CSV matching TikTok's template.
Per-title fields include cover image, clip video, headline, genre, IMDb review count, and customisable text fields 3. Creatives must be resized per Streaming Ads format before they render:
- Multi-Show Experience: 3:4 for images + videos.
- Media Card: 2:3 for images, 9:16 for videos.
Asset resizing tool lives on the product-edit page in Catalog Manager — crop per size, each size cropped separately 2.
Product-set guidance: at least 5 titles per product set; avoid over-segmenting 2.
Only consumes:
- Streaming — Media Card → streaming-media-card
- Streaming — Multi-Show Experience → streaming-multi-show
Not consumed by classic Catalog Ads (Carousel / Single Video / Catalog Video) — those assume a Products catalog.
Decision matrix for Sprinklr
| If the target advertiser is… | Use catalog type | Priority for Sprinklr |
|---|---|---|
| Retailer / D2C / marketplace | Products | P0 (core of MVP) |
| Streaming service / entertainment brand | Media Titles | Separate track (v2+) |
| OTA / airline / tourism | Hotels / Flights / Destinations | Niche track; only if a large customer blocks on it |
