Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is a professional cricket team based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The franchise was founded in 2012 after the Deccan Chargers were expelled from the IPL, and plays its home matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium1.

SRH won their maiden IPL title in 2016 and have reached the final twice (2016 and 2018, 2024)1.

History

Formation (2012-2015)

Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the IPL in 2013 after the BCCI scrapped the Deccan Chargers franchise. The team was owned by Sun TV Network and retained 20 players from the previous Hyderabad franchise, including Kumar Sangakkara as captain3.

In their debut season (2013), they reached the playoffs and finished fourth — a strong start for a new franchise.

2016 — Maiden Title

The 2016 season was their most successful. After finishing third in the league stage, they won three consecutive knockout games — eliminator vs Kolkata Knight Riders, qualifier vs Gujarat Lions, and final vs Royal Challengers Bangalore — to win their maiden IPL title1.

David Warner was the star, scoring 548 runs and earning the Orange Cap. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 23 wickets and won the Purple Cap4.

2018 — Runners-up

In 2018, without Warner (banned for ball-tampering), SRH reached the final but lost to Chennai Super Kings4.

2024 — Return to Final

In 2024, SRH reached their third final under new captain Pat Cummins but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders1.
