Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa (born January 11, 1986) is a former Indian international cricketer who played as a wicket-keeper batsman. Known for his elegant batting technique and quick reflexes behind the stumps, Uthappa was a crucial member of the Indian squad in limited-overs cricket during his peak years. He played a pivotal role in India's 2007 T20 World Cup victory and was one of the most consistent performers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 1.
Uthappa played 46 One Day Internationals (ODIs), 7 Test matches, and 39 T20 Internationals for India, scoring over 3,500 international runs. His ability to bat at any position and keep wickets effectively made him a valuable asset in the Indian lineup. After retiring from international cricket in 2022, he transitioned into mentorship roles and cricket commentary.

Robin Uthappa was born on January 11, 1986, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, into a sports-oriented family. His father, Samuel Uthappa, was a footballer, and his mother, Maithil Uthappa, was a sports enthusiast. He attended the Laxman Public School in Mumbai and showed exceptional cricket talent from a young age.
He made his domestic debut for Mumbai in 2005 and quickly established himself as one of Mumbai's leading batsmen. His consistent performances in domestic cricket earned him a place in the Indian team in 2008.
International Career
Early Years (2008-2012)
Uthappa made his ODI debut against South Africa in 2008 and his T20I debut against Pakistan in 2008. Initially used as a middle-order batsman, he quickly established himself as a key player in the limited-overs formats.
His performances in the 2007 T20 World Cup were exceptional—he scored 183 runs at a strike rate of 145.28, helping India win their first T20 World Cup. His 68* against England in the group stage was one of the key innings in India's campaign.
Peak Years (2013-2017)
Uthappa's career peaked between 2013 and 2017, where he played several crucial innings:
- 2014: Scored 1,500+ runs in ODIs and T20Is combined
- 2015 World Cup: Scored 223 runs in the tournament
- 2016: Scored 80* against Australia in T20I
His partnership with MS Dhoni at the wicket-keeper position provided stability to the Indian batting lineup. He was known for his ability to accelerate rapidly in the death overs.
Later Career (2018-2022)
Uthappa's form declined after 2017, and he was dropped from the team. However, he made a comeback in limited-overs cricket in 2022 before retiring from international cricket.

With Chennai Super Kings (2015-2017), he provided experience and stability to a young batting lineup. His best IPL season came in 2014 with KKR, where he scored 660 runs.
