Hubert Thieblot (born December 8, 1984) is a French entrepreneur and investor. He is a General Partner at Founders, Inc. (f.inc), which he joined in April 2022.34 He previously founded Curse, Inc. in 2005 and served as its CEO until January 2018.12
As a teenager in France, Thieblot played World of Warcraft extensively, at one point logging nearly 16 hours per day.1 His guild, named "Curse," was among the strongest in Europe.6 He built a website to organize and share World of Warcraft modifications, add-ons, and UI plugins.1
When the site's traffic grew, Thieblot dropped out of his Swiss information technology program and incorporated the business in 2006 as Curse, Inc.1 He hired his brother as the first employee and brought on a third developer after relocating to Germany.1 By 2008, with over two-thirds of site traffic coming from the United States, Thieblot moved Curse to San Francisco.5
Curse expanded from hosting game modifications into community sites, news, forums, databases, wikis, and original content.1 In 2007, Thieblot began developing the Curse Client, a desktop application for managing and installing game add-ons across titles including World of Warcraft, Runes of Magic, World of Tanks, and Minecraft.1
By 2013, the Curse network drew more than 30 million unique visitors per month.1 Curse was named a Microsoft BizSpark One company in 2010 and an Inc. 500 company in 2011.1 In April 2012, Ernst & Young named Thieblot a semifinalist in their Entrepreneur of the Year program for Northern California.1
In 2014, Thieblot launched Curse Voice, a VoIP application designed for games like League of Legends that integrated voice chat with auto-matchmaking.1
Curse was acquired by Twitch (an Amazon subsidiary). After leaving his CEO role in January 2018, Thieblot worked at Twitch as Vice President of Emerging Market/Mobile First Product.1 In April 2022, he joined Founders, Inc. as General Partner, where he focuses on investing in and supporting early-stage founders.34
